I reluctantly purchased this dress bc of all the bad reviews. I did not heed the warning about it NOT being oversized, that critique was accurate. It does not fit oversized at all, so go up a size if you want it to be loose fitted. The material is in fact heavier than that of your average tshirt ...(quality is great) isn't see through at all if you're wearing it true to size as the material won't stretch resulting in slight transparency. I'm actually quite happy with the quality! Can't wait to wear it this summer. I'm 5'3, 128 lbs. Exchanged XS for a S.
NOT tall, NOT oversized and NOT heavyweight Just received my dresses (I ordered two, both in black because the last striped dress was bought right from under my nose before I got a chance to pay for my cart). Was really looking forward to it, but the dresses turned out to be a great disappointment...: the labels did NOT state "Tall" like I ordered - and I always make sure to order TALL and LONG for all my dresses, pants and skirts because I am tall and long-legged (34" inseam) and were disgustingly short. You know what the difference is between a truly classy, haute couture, expensive look and budget mass-market styles? The proportions and the fit, as well as the quality of the fabric. The classy fit gives you a generous allotment, even an excess of fabric appropriate for EVERY size, not just for XXS size and 4'8" height, so that even the taller and/or heavier people do not look like a stuffed sausage in a too-short casing. And the proportions: the longer the length, the classier the look. A floor-legth skirt, dress or pants ALWAYS look classier than those that end at the ankle or, heaven forbid, at the calf. And the better fabrics tend to be a denser, finer weave that holds shape, drapes and falls on the body in a way more flattering manner than the cheap mass-market ones. That is not to say it is impossible to find some great styles and pieces in the mass-market segment: even at Gap and Old Navy I used to have pretty good luck with decent quality fabrics and cut. But this dress misses the mark: it is neither tall as ordered nor oversized, and it can only be considered "heavyweight" somewhere on a hot and humid tropical coast. The fabric feels the same weight as my 5.6 oz-weight 100% cotton Tshirts, the dress falls just below mid-calf (yuck!) on my 5'8" frame, and I guess in Gap's today's fashion terms "oversized" must mean "not bodycon" - because it is just regular fit, not even baggy. For the reference, Gap's normal XXL size is normally quite loose and satisfyi

While I agree with some of the negative reviews, I do love this dress. The cotton is heavier than typical for a cotton dress and it hangs nicely. I have several items in this same brown colour and I love it It isn't an oversize fit though, and although my regular size fits and hangs perfectly, I'm afraid that it will be too small if it shrinks even a little bit. I will be exchanging for the next size up.

I am happy with this dress, it has a bit of a terry cloth feel on the inside, and it hangs nicely. The brown colour is lovely. The slit is high but it doesn't bother me. However, if you're looking for an oversize fit, you need to size up!

gap.com/I didn't read the reviews before I ordered- I went a size up because I wanted it extra loose. Fit is exactly what I wanted. It's comfortable and the fabric isn't thin. I don't know if I'd call it heavyweight, but it's not a thin cotton. Very comfortable. I'd order another color.

gap.com/When I purchased, only a few of the warning reviews were in - so I remained hopeful because the striped one seemed cute. But everyone is completely correct - this dress is NOT at all as advertised! In no way, shape, or form is it oversize and in no way, shape or form is this to be considered heavyweight. Such a bummer - if it had actually been those things, I would be cute, and I might forgive it's lack of pockets (which is also a huge bummer) - of course, that's only possible if you actually use heavyweight jersey.... sadness.

Not sure what's with all the negative reviews but this dress is so cute, thick good quality material, and easy to wear. It's oversized the perfect amount.

#sweepstakes While this looks so cute on the models, it looks nothing like that in person. It fits small, not oversized in any way-like a fitted t shirt dress everywhere except for the stomach wish gapes. I am a size small petite in gap, sometimes an extra small petite but my usual small petite was fitted and too tight across my hips and bum as well as in the shoulders. This is not what I would call a thick material either, it feels like a regular t shirt fabric which was disappointing. I tried the striped one and it is see through, it's going straight back!
