I reluctantly purchased this dress bc of all the bad reviews. I did not heed the warning about it NOT being oversized, that critique was accurate. It does not fit oversized at all, so go up a size if you want it to be loose fitted. The material is in fact heavier than that of your average tshirt ...(quality is great) isn't see through at all if you're wearing it true to size as the material won't stretch resulting in slight transparency. I'm actually quite happy with the quality! Can't wait to wear it this summer. I'm 5'3, 128 lbs. Exchanged XS for a S.
NOT tall, NOT oversized and NOT heavyweight Just received my dresses (I ordered two, both in black because the last striped dress was bought right from under my nose before I got a chance to pay for my cart). Was really looking forward to it, but the dresses turned out to be a great disappointment...: the labels did NOT state "Tall" like I ordered - and I always make sure to order TALL and LONG for all my dresses, pants and skirts because I am tall and long-legged (34" inseam) and were disgustingly short. You know what the difference is between a truly classy, haute couture, expensive look and budget mass-market styles? The proportions and the fit, as well as the quality of the fabric. The classy fit gives you a generous allotment, even an excess of fabric appropriate for EVERY size, not just for XXS size and 4'8" height, so that even the taller and/or heavier people do not look like a stuffed sausage in a too-short casing. And the proportions: the longer the length, the classier the look. A floor-legth skirt, dress or pants ALWAYS look classier than those that end at the ankle or, heaven forbid, at the calf. And the better fabrics tend to be a denser, finer weave that holds shape, drapes and falls on the body in a way more flattering manner than the cheap mass-market ones. That is not to say it is impossible to find some great styles and pieces in the mass-market segment: even at Gap and Old Navy I used to have pretty good luck with decent quality fabrics and cut. But this dress misses the mark: it is neither tall as ordered nor oversized, and it can only be considered "heavyweight" somewhere on a hot and humid tropical coast. The fabric feels the same weight as my 5.6 oz-weight 100% cotton Tshirts, the dress falls just below mid-calf (yuck!) on my 5'8" frame, and I guess in Gap's today's fashion terms "oversized" must mean "not bodycon" - because it is just regular fit, not even baggy. For the reference, Gap's normal XXL size is normally quite loose and satisfyi

gap.com/This isn't thick or heavy weight in the slightest. But if you're looking for a light summer dress, the fit is pretty good. Definitely not worth the price point though

gap.com/Straight up and down. If you have any curves at all you should order a size larger than you normally would. Very disappointed. Black dresses are my go to "getting dressed" option.

...I ordered this. Now I understand some of them. They should call this a column dress with wide sleeves, a mid weight, and high slit. I'm a small petite, 5', 110 lbs for reference, I got the small petite, it wasn't oversized through the body, wasn't fitted either. The width of the sleeves are wide. It hit just above my ankle. Because the body isn't oversized, the very high slit opens easily. Old navy has a cotton t-shirt dress, I get them in a size up for loungewear, the weight is heavier, that's better, imo. This was a quick return. Wasn't feeling the quality either.

I love the cotton, tight knit dress but I found it not to be oversized at all. I ordered 1 size down and it was way too small. Way to tight. As well, compared to how it looks in pictures, the slit on the side is much higher than I thought it would be. I'm 5'7" and it reached half way up my thigh above my knee.

The slit in this dress is very high. It is higher than the tips of my fingers with my hands by my side - I will be returning it because of that. I know it is a different cut and fit, but the Modern Maxi in the same size is a perfect fit.

gap.com/I think this dress is labeled as oversized because of the dropped shoulders. Although it is a dropped shoulder, I think the top of the dress fits more like a classic fit tee shirt. When you put the dress on, the bottom half of the dress is more straight from where your actual shoulders will be. The bottom of the dress doesn't flare out. The slit is only on the left side of the leg up to about mid thigh. The material is thicker than a regular tee so less stretch. I think it's a nice weight for spring and even early fall. I'm 5'2" and purchased a SP. Fits great and it's a nice casual dress. Comes up to a few inches above my ankles. I recommend if purchasing, consider what size you purchase in a classic fit tee and keep in mind the thicker material just has less stretch. If you like your classic tee a little baggier or need to size up due to broader chest or shoulder, I would size up. One other thing I consider is where your hip falls compared to your shoulders. If you are curvier in the bottom, I think it may help to order one size up. Again, less stretchy material and the dress is cut straight down from where your shoulders are.
